What materials are used inside the villas?

The interiors of the Apaulinha villas are finished in a restrained mineral and natural palette: hydraulic lime on the walls, wood joinery, and high-performance technical build-ups behind the surfaces.

Interior walls are finished in hydraulic lime — a breathable mineral render that regulates humidity naturally and ages gracefully, in keeping with traditional Alentejo building culture. Interior vertical insulation uses Fermacell technical panels, and roof insulation consists of high-performance rigid panels with thermal bridges treated throughout. Exterior joinery is in wood, contemporary in design and treated for the local climate.

This palette extends the project's broader material vocabulary — sand, concrete, wood, light, silence — in which surfaces are chosen for how they weather and feel rather than for gloss. The structural concrete of the building itself, cast in situ, remains part of the material story rather than something to be covered up.

Why it matters: breathable lime finishes and properly insulated, thermally continuous envelopes produce interiors that are healthy, quiet and stable in temperature — qualities that matter more over twenty summers than any decorative flourish. Mineral materials of this kind also require little intervention over time.
