What heating, cooling and comfort systems are installed?

Each Apaulinha villa is climate-controlled by a reversible heat pump providing both heating and cooling, distributed through low-temperature underfloor heating.

The system works with, rather than against, the building envelope. Roof insulation uses high-performance rigid panels; interior vertical insulation is delivered through Fermacell technical panels; and thermal bridges are treated throughout the structure. Because the envelope retains heat in winter and resists it in summer, the heat pump operates at low intensity — and low-temperature underfloor distribution spreads warmth evenly across the slab, with no radiators, no blown air and no visible equipment in the living spaces.

The result is a particular quality of comfort: stable temperatures, silent operation, and clean wall surfaces free of technical clutter — consistent with interiors finished in breathable hydraulic lime.

Why it matters: reversible heat pumps paired with underfloor distribution are among the most energy-efficient ways to condition a house of this size, keeping running costs low across both the mild Alentejo winters and the hot summers. Comfort systems designed into the structure from the outset also age better than retrofitted ones.
