What beaches are nearby?

The Atlantic coast is around 20 minutes from Apaulinha by car — a long, largely undeveloped stretch of sand backed by dunes and pine, which is much of the reason this corner of the Alentejo commands the attention it does.

As regional context, the best-known beaches of the area include Praia de Melides, the beach of the village 17 km from the estate; Praia da Comporta, the stretch that made the region's name internationally; and Praia do Carvalhal, between the two. What distinguishes this coastline is less any single beach than its condition: thanks to the strong planning restrictions that govern the whole area, the shore has remained low-built and open, without the promenade development typical of most European coasts.

From Apaulinha, the beach is a daily possibility rather than an expedition — twenty minutes there, twenty minutes back — while the estate itself offers a closer alternative for swimming in the natural lake at the edge of the property.

Why it matters: proximity to a protected, uncrowded Atlantic coastline is the region's founding asset. It underpins both the pleasure of living here and the seasonal rental demand that runs from May to September.
